Max Landis hat damals das Drehbuch zum Found Footage Hit Chronicle – Wozu bist Du fähig? geschrieben und schickt nun mit Jane LA einen eigenen Kurzfilm aus dem gleichen Genre ins Rennen. Hier könnt Ihr Euch den Film ansehen und erfahrt worum es geht.
Darum geht es in Jane LA
Ein Filmemacher (Max Landis) dreht eine kleine Dokumentation über Kunst-Studentin Jane (Zena Grey), die an einem etwas ungewöhnlichem Projekt für ihr Studium arbeitet: Eine Bombe!
Aber wie viel an ihrem Projekt ist Spaß und wie viel daran ist bitterer Ernst?
Max Landis beschreibt die Entstehung des Films wie folgt:
I borrowed a friend’s camera to make it; it’s shot entirely by me. It was an idea I’d had for a long time; I only really got motivated because I thought Zena would do a good job, and that brought out the director in me. Almost every line of dialogue you here is improvised; there was absolutely no script. I just knew the scenes we needed. I would, before hitting record, throw the actors (random friends of mine) the idea they needed to convey. Occasionally I got more specific, but mostly it was “Prompt, shoot, notes, prompt again, shoot again, notes again” until I got what I needed. The end result got put in limbo as my life grew steadily more busy, but I’m happy to finally release this cut. It’s not the “SUPAR HIGH PRODUCTION VALUE SPECIAL EFFECTS WOW” type of short most directors release these days. It certainly isn’t “viral.” But I’m very proud of it as an experiment in shooting from the hip to tell a story, which is exactly what it was meant to be.
Grob übersetzt erzählt Max Landis, dass die Idee zu Jane LA schon länger in seinem Kopf herum spukte und das jede einzelne Dialogzeile im Film improvisiert sei. Er habe nur die einzelnen Szenen, die er für den Film brauchen würde, im Kopf gehabt. Jedes mal, bevor er die „Record“ Taste drückte, erklärte er den Schauspielern was er möchte, drehte dann kurz und erklärte dann wie es weitergehen soll.
Das Ergebnis ist zwar kein „Super kostspieliger Special Effects Hammer“ und seiner Meinung nach auch nicht „viral“, aber er ist sehr stolz darauf so ein Experiment aus der Hüfte geschossen und damit eine Geschichte erzählt zu haben, denn genau das wollte er ja auch.
