The Story
Two journalists follow a friend to a remote, self-sufficient community where his estranged sister lives, only to find that the group’s charismatic leader is holding onto something far darker than the peaceful image they present.
Verdict
I think this is one of the strongest cult films in the genre, mostly because it doesn’t hide what it’s inspired by. The parallels to real historical events add a genuine extra layer of dread that I found hard to shake, and Gene Jones as the community’s leader is quietly terrifying without ever raising his voice much. It’s not doing anything wildly original structurally, but I think it executes everything it’s doing extremely well.
