The Story
A documentary filmmaker travels to a secluded Amish community hoping to finally meet her long-lost mother’s extended family, and her crew quickly realizes the warm welcome is hiding something considerably darker.
Verdict
I appreciate the attempt to revive the franchise with a genuinely fresh setting instead of just returning to the same house again, and the Amish-community angle is a smart, underused idea. That said, I don’t think it fully capitalizes on its own premise, and it never quite reaches the dread the original trilogy managed. A decent, if not essential, attempt at a reboot.
