The Story
A journalist chasing down a government cover-up follows the trail into a sprawling, abandoned rail tunnel network beneath Sydney. It becomes clear fairly quickly why the authorities wanted that particular story kept quiet.
Verdict
An Australian film, and one I genuinely liked a lot. What makes it work is the location itself — the real, abandoned tunnel system does more heavy lifting than any effects budget could, claustrophobic in a way that’s hard to fake with a built set, and you can feel that authenticity in every frame. Crowd-funded, which makes what they pulled off even more impressive. The acting stays convincing even as the tension keeps ratcheting up, and the second half in particular barely lets you breathe. There’s a flooded-room sequence about halfway through that’s one of the more genuinely disturbing moments this genre has produced, the kind of scene that sticks with you long after the credits roll. One of the strongest creature-threat setups found footage has ever pulled off, and it deserves to be talked about more than it is.
