The Story
Horror director Adam Green sets out to make a documentary about cryptid folklore, and ends up following a retired detective who insists he’s been tracking real, physical monsters living underground for years. Green brings his own camera crew along to find out if any of it is true.
Verdict
Every bit of horror memorabilia and genre cameo grabs your attention immediately, and the creature effects genuinely deliver once they finally show up — the problem is how rarely that actually happens. The director-as-protagonist angle comes off a little self-indulgent at points, but the practical monster designs alone make it worth sitting through.
