The Story
In 1995 four men from a public-access show called Fact or Fiction go into the Pine Barrens of New Jersey to broadcast live from the home of the Jersey Devil. Only one comes back, and he is sent to prison for life. A year later a filmmaker starts his own investigation into what really happened.
Verdict
This came out a year before The Blair Witch Project and it is easy to see why people compare them. I find it more interesting as a true-crime documentary than as a horror film, with the interviews and the courtroom story doing most of the work. It is cheap and a little rough, and the twist is not for everyone, but I really enjoyed seeing how much was done with so little. A must for anyone who wants to know where the genre came from.
