The Story

A man answers an online ad offering $1,000 for a day of filming work. He drives out to a cabin to meet his subject, a man named Josef. Josef says the project is personal. It doesn’t take long to realize he isn’t telling the truth.

Verdict

I’ll be honest, this one didn’t land for me the way it seems to for most people. Mark Duplass is genuinely unsettling in the role, and the two-person setup is a clever way to keep the budget tiny. But a lot of the tension relies on the main character making choices that just don’t feel believable, and that pulled me out of it more than once. I understand why people love it. I just don’t.
