The Story
A quiet town on the Arizona-Mexico border is wiped out overnight, and suspicion falls entirely on the one survivor left standing. A roll of undeveloped photographs he took that night tells a very different story about what actually happened.
Verdict
A genuinely clever structural choice — building the horror almost entirely out of still photographs instead of moving footage — and it mostly earns it. The disturbing images do real work on their own, more than most films manage with full motion and sound. For some people, the final two minutes might not stick the landing quite as well as the rest, but I think it’s still a smart, distinctive entry in this corner of the genre.
